Jordan.. Launch of the “Eager Lion” exercise to confront “emerging threats” with the participation of 33 countries

Jordan – The “Eager Lion” exercise, one of the most important joint military exercises hosted by Jordan, began yesterday, Sunday, with the participation of 33 allied countries against “the emerging, cross-border threats of the era.”

The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, reported that the exercise will continue for 12 days, during the period between May 12 and 23, and in all regions of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (north, center, and south).

For his part, Director of Jordanian Military Media, Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hiyari, said in a press conference at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center: “Exercise Eager Lion is one of the most important exercises carried out in the Middle East region, in which the forces (land, sea, and air) and the armed forces of countries participate.” Participation in these exercises is in addition to many governmental and non-governmental institutions at the national level (ministries, security agencies, and humanitarian organizations), and 33 countries are participating, including Jordan and the United States, which adds a great advantage to the exercise in terms of the diversity of experiences and the variety of methods that its participants will acquire.” .

Al-Hayari continued: “The exercise was designed to achieve many objectives at the levels (strategic, operational and tactical), the most important of which at the strategic level is to create a common understanding among the participating countries about the nature of emerging and cross-border threats such as terrorist organizations and the groups, entities and entities that support them, as well as the proliferation of drones and the threat of weapons proliferation.” Mass destruction (biological, chemical and nuclear) and the spread of means of delivery represented by missiles with different ranges, as this common understanding includes all land, air and sea threat directions.”

He pointed out that the exercise was “designed at the strategic level, to find the best ways and means to confront these threats, such as raising the combat readiness of the Jordanian Armed Forces and other armies participating in this exercise, and raising the response capacity of other institutions and intelligence, media and information agencies.”

As for the operational level, “the exercise was designed to harmonize the forces of the participating countries in terms of planning methodology, targeting, management of military operations (land, sea and air), logistical support operations, and response to natural disasters and pandemics.”

He explained that “the exercise was designed at the tactical level, to qualify human resources at the individual and collective levels and the skills of responding to weapons of mass destruction incidents, humanitarian disasters, dealing with explosives, search and inspection, and others.”

Al-Hiyari stressed that “the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army always seeks to develop its combat doctrine and strengthen its international partnerships to confront emerging threats and achieve individual and collective security.” The security of the Kingdom is part of the security of the region and global security,” pointing out that “the exercise has always brought something new over the years, and it is also in its eleventh edition, and this appears through the slogan of the exercise, which, in addition to the flags of the participating countries, carried the expressions of the human being who is the focus of the defense operation and partnership.” “That unites and directs efforts to protect people and innovation, without which we will have no means to confront the latest developments in today’s threats and cross-border threats.”
