Jordanian Beekeeper Wins International Medals for Quality Honey Production After Devastating Loss

The Jordanian beekeeper, Abdullah Abu Zureik, did not wait long after his apiaries were damaged and lost, as a result of the torrential rains that swept away the hives in the Jordanian Azraq region.

The relief came after the spread of a video clip of an Egyptian worker working for him who documented the great loss he suffered after the torrential rains raided the 350 hives, valued at 70,000 Jordanian dinars, which the Jordanians sympathized with widely at the time.

The Jordanian Minister of Agriculture hurried to visit the place the next day to inspect its conditions and the conditions of other farmers who were affected by the torrential rains. On Sunday, its apiaries won 3 international medals from the London International Competition for the Best Types of Honey, thus becoming the first Jordanian to receive an international medal in the sector of beekeepers and honey producers. .

The compensation came quickly

In his interview with “Sky News Arabia”, Abu Zureik said, “Al-Awad came quickly, and he is very happy with this achievement, which required a great effort from him,” explaining that the three medals show the quality of Jordanian natural honey.

All the varieties in which Abu Zureik participated in the competition won gold medals, as he participated in the varieties (Mountain thorn honey, Salam honey, and spring flower honey).

Abu Zureik praised the role of the Ministry of Agriculture, which provided them with guidance through the National Center for Agricultural Research, in addition to the Jordanian Beekeepers’ Union, calling on his colleagues in the sector to take an interest in participating in international competitions to show the high quality of Jordanian honey, which is “oppressed in the media” from his point of view.

He emphasized that the diverse nature and terrain in Jordan gives it great advantages in the honey production sector and its derivatives and allows for a multiplicity of produced varieties, and that the control imposed on apiaries greatly limits commercial fraud or manipulation of the types of honey produced, and because the sector receives great attention from the official authorities.

Great diversity and important sector

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hanifat, praised Abu Zureik’s achievements by obtaining these medals. Promote it in the global markets.

Al-Hunaifat confirmed, during his interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that the ministry cares about all agricultural sectors in Jordan and seeks to develop them, and that the beekeepers’ sector obtained various support programs that started with free educational courses, passing through financing through full grants or interest-free loans, in order to protect production in case it was The quantities produced are in excess of the market need.

He explained that the Jordanian production reaches 800 tons of honey, which constitutes 20 percent of the local consumption, noting that the Jordanian production is characterized by a wide variety of honey varieties due to the diversity of nature and climate, as the Kingdom produces 19 varieties of the finest natural honey.

Al-Hanaifat revealed to “Sky News Arabia” the ministry’s intention to expand by supporting this sector of beekeepers for several reasons, including increasing local production and raising the percentage of self-sufficiency in natural honey, in addition to providing job opportunities for Jordanians to reduce the problems of poverty and unemployment, and pointed out that the ministry has developed a plan in this regard. It seeks to provide 1,000 new job opportunities by supporting and training those wishing to invest in this sector.
