Airport customs stopped at night a Jordanian citizen, Youssef Khalaf, while he was leaving Beirut for London on a private plane, and an amount of money estimated at about 3,500,000 dollars in cash was seized in one of his bags.

After directing a signal to the Public Prosecution Office at the Court of Cassation, Judge Ghassan Oweidat issued a decision to confiscate the money, prevent Khalaf from traveling, and transfer the file to Judge Ali Ibrahim, noting that Khalaf confessed before the customs officers that the amount was withdrawn from Al-Mawarid Bank.

According to one of the lawyers following the case of the Jordanian citizen’s arrest, the investigations will reveal later the source of that money, and whether it is a legal deposit for the Jordanian citizen or has suspicions. However, in any case, the judiciary must point the finger of blame, according to one of the jurists, at Al-Mawared Bank (Marwan Khair El-Din), which continues to this day to facilitate cash withdrawals with discretion, at a time when it, like other banks, refrains from handing over the Lebanese their dollars.
