Benn played for the Stars from 2011 to 2017. He was then traded to the Montreal Canadiens in a trade involving fullback Greg Pateryn and a fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft.

After just over two seasons with the Habs, Benn went on to play for the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs.

In 2022-2023, he played 12 games with the Queen City team. The native of Victoria, British Columbia, however, mainly played for the Marlies, the Leafs’ farm club in the American League.

At the Stars, Benn will reconnect with his brother Jamie.
