José Antonio Kast Criticizes President Gabriel Boric at CPAC 2024: A Woke Chile in Crisis

The founder of the Republican Party, José Antonio Kastparticipated this Friday in the Conservative Action Political Conference (CPAC) 2024a political summit organized by the American Conservative Union.

This year, the venue of the forum was Hungary, from where the former president attacked the President Gabriel Boric.

“I come from Chile, in Latin America. And unlike what we see in Hungary and what we are seeing in different parts of Europe, in parts of Latin America, and especially in Chile, progressivism is devastating and destroying our societies, condemning them to poverty, marginality and insecurity.”he started saying.

And then he launched: “In Chile, we are governed by a ‘woke’ President. A President who is under 40 years old, who rides his bicycle down the street with police escorts, who arrives to work late, who goes home early, and there are even days when he doesn’t even go to work.”

Woke is a term that has generated a cultural battle in the United States. Although it was initially used to define people who “woke up,” for “be aware of social and political issues, especially racism”, then began to be used as an insult by other groups.

The Oxford dictionary itself makes the distinction. Below the definition, add the following: “This word is often used disapprovingly by people who think other people get too easily upset about these issues, or talk too much about them in a way that doesn’t change anything.”

While the Merriam-Webster dictionary points out that it is used disapprovingly to refer to “to someone politically liberal (as in matters of racial and social justice) especially in a way that is considered unreasonable or extreme.”

According to the BBC, “while for some to be a “woke” is to have social and racial awareness, and to question the oppressive paradigms and norms historically imposed by society, for others it describes hypocrites who believe themselves to be morally superior and want to impose their progressive ideas on the rest.” .

In his speech, Kast also noted about the Head of State: “We have a President who during the campaign said that all illegal immigrants were welcome; that his government would be feminist, environmentalist and indigenous, that the only way to grow was by increasing taxes and that all government action had to be with a gender perspective.

“A President who, last weekend, was happily enjoying a soccer game, while at the same time, the murderer of a police officer left the country through the uncontrolled border that we have in the north”he expressed.

Kast then said that it is about “a President so ‘woke’, but so ‘woke’, that he promised that Chile would be the progressive paradise, and ended up turning it into a nightmare. A real nightmare.”

Next, the leader of Acción Republicana criticized that “In that “feminist” Chile, women can no longer go out on the street after 6 in the afternoon, because they can be assaulted, raped or killed. They also cannot work as before, because thanks to the policies of destruction of the economy, female unemployment continues to rise and with more and more restrictions.”

“In that “progressive” Chile that does not progress at all. A country that was once an economic example for the world and where today, the mediocre authorities we have open champagne to celebrate an economic growth of 0.2%, only surpassing Haiti in Latin America,” he questioned before those attending the conference.

And he added that the solutions have been “raise taxes, increase the minimum wage, reduce the working day and decree more and more regulations.”

“In that Chile, which was previously the safest country in Latin America, and today the crimes, dismemberments and the action of organized crime has quickly turned it into one of the most insecure in the region”he emphasized, adding that “Homicides are increasing, violent crimes are increasing, drug trafficking is increasing.”

“The crisis is so serious that older adults write letters to the newspaper to ask criminals not to hit them when they assault them”said.

And then he used the term with which he defined Boric again: “That is the Chile of today. That’s ‘woke’ Chile.”

In the second part of his presentation, Kast stated that, despite what he described above, “there is hope.”

“Next to Chile, there is Argentina. “A country that was devastated by socialism and left in ruins, and where today the figure and work of President Javier Milei emerges strongly.”he stated.

And he added: “Javier Milei is leading an economic revolution in Argentina and if it goes well, it will be an example for the rest of Latin America.”

Likewise, he pointed out that “in Central America, Nayib Bukelewho assumed the Presidency of El Salvador as the most dangerous country in the world and today has turned it into the safest and calmest country on the entire continent.”

Later, he recalled that “Two years ago, I had the privilege of being here in Budapest, as President of the Political Network for Values.”

“Today I once again have the privilege of accompanying you as a former presidential candidate and representative of a ‘woke’ Chile, which unfortunately is experiencing a deep security, economic and social crisis.”said.

And then he said: “I hope and trust in God that in two years I will be able to accompany you again at CPAC, but this time, as President of Chile, beginning the path of recovery and reconstruction of our country and following the successful model of other Latin American and European countries.”
