José Manuel Vázquez del Rey Regional Music Festival begins today in Cienfuegos

From today, March 30, and until Saturday, April 1, the Benny Moré Provincial Art School of Cienfuegos is developing the seventh edition of the José Manuel Vázquez del Rey Regional Music Festival.

The main objective of the event is to promote the unpublished work of the pianist and composer from Cienfuegos José Manuel Vázquez del Rey, to promote the approach of the new generations to local culture from various arts such as dance, theater, plastic arts and music. The theme of the event is “The presence of percussion in the local sound environment.”

Three special recognitions will be awarded in this edition: 50 years after the founding of the Nueva Trova movement, personified in the figure of Roberto Novo; the 122nd anniversary of the Cienfuegos Municipal Concert Band; and the percussion student Daniel Adel González Padilla, the result of artistic education in our province, and who was the winner of the first Prize in Timbal in the most recent edition of the Drum Festival.

The general program of the Festival is made up of concerts, master classes, a biographical exhibition of the photographer and painter Antonio Vázquez del Rey (brother of José Manuel), the Symposium “Presence of percussion in the local sound universe” and a download to close it. .

In the same way, a floral offering will be placed at the tomb of the Cienfuegos maestro who gives its name to the contest, in the Tomás Acea cemetery.
