Born on June 7, 1945, in Berwyn, Illinois, to joseph And Mildred Slifka, He lived a life marked by professional achievement and dedication to his hobbies and family.

Joseph Slifka’s career spanned various fields, from education to safety management. After graduating from Morton East High School and earning degrees from Morton Junior college, The University of Wisconsin, Platteville, And Northern Illinois University, dekalb, Joseph Slifka started as a high school machine shop teacher. He transitioned into safety management, holding positions at Electro-Motive Division (GM) and the National Safety Council, before becoming Executive Vice President at Gallagher Bassett Services, from which he retired in 2007.

His lifelong love for trains led him to the North Alabama Railroad Museum. He passionately constructed an elaborate HO-gauge train layout. During his retirement, this passion led him to become President of the North Alabama Railroad museum for two years.
