Joy and emotion, Federer and Nadal linked forever, well beyond the courts

With their many finals played against each other, the speeches were very present at the end of their confrontations. Some have remained in the hearts. One of the first that we have in mind is the one after the Australian Open 2009. Nadal has just won his first Major on hard court, six months after winning the title at Wimbledon. As in London, the final is epic, and as in London, Nadal wins in five sets.

In seven Grand Slam finals face to face, this is the fifth victory for him against his rival. Behind the microphone, Federer cracks and barely manages to speak. As Nadal is called to make his speech, the Swiss tries his luck again, explaining that his opponent “deserves the last word”. When it’s his turn to talk, the Mallorcan tries to comfort him by predicting that he would break the record of 14 major titles in Peter Sampras. He eventually won twenty.
