Juan Carlos Alemán: AN will not reform the Law on the Practice of Journalism

The parliamentarian considers that the CNP is “seeking to manipulate.”

During a meeting held by the deputies that make up the Permanent Commission of People’s Power and Communication of the National Assembly (AN), the possible revision of the Law on the Exercise of Journalism was discussed, as well as the proposal of Street Parliamentarism.

The president of the aforementioned Commission, the deputy of the AN, Juan Carlos Alemán, clarified that the Law on the Exercise of Journalism will not be reformed.

He affirmed that, in this period, the commission plans to legislate on the laws of Social Networks, Social Movements and Social Comptrollership.

So it would be up to the deputies who are installed in the aforementioned commission for the period 2023, to legislate on this Law. This, in the event that the groups of journalists who work on revision proposals, establish a possible modification.

For this reason, he extended the invitation to all sectors that want to make their proposals on the matter.

These statements were made in connection with a statement issued by the National Association of Journalists, in which it denounced the alleged “reform claim” of the Law on the Practice of Journalism.

In response to said document, Alemán stressed that “the modification” of the legislation is not planned. He specified that there are “proposals” for revision that were raised by the work groups.

“We are willing to listen to everyone who needs to listen.”

Alemán assured that with the document issued by the CNP, what is sought is to “manipulate the work that is being carried out” from the Commission of People’s Power and Communication.
