Judge sentenced the man who attacked his girlfriend with an ax to 20 years

After a long judicial process in which Miguel Camilo Parra, the man who in an attack and anger attacked his girlfriend with an ax to the head, was captured and recaptured, today a judge of the Republic sentenced him to 20 years and 8 months in prison for the crime of attempted aggravated femicide.

This decision comes after almost two years since the event occurred. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the man would have acted with full awareness and with the intention of generating an injury or even death in his sentimental partner. “He was so aware of what he was doing that he called two of his relatives to ask them to see the victim. Then he ran away, took the ax with him, changed his physical appearance and hid in Fusagasugá,” the prosecution said.

The complicated outcome of this judicial process occurs after a guarantee judge granted Parra his freedom on March 3 due to a request for the expiration of terms. At that time, César Londoño, defense of the perpetrator, alleged that Parra had been imprisoned since October 29, 2020 in the District jail. “He is unfairly locked up. There is sufficient evidence that the Prosecutor’s Office hid evidencehe renounced the clinical history, he renounced the first responders, there were many contradictions”.

However, the process was turbulent from the start and surrounded by delays and complications. According to the Attorney General’s Office, after the charges were filed on October 27, 2020 and the accusation, on January 15, 2021, a date for the preparatory hearing was set for March 8, 2021, but, as of from that moment, four requests for adjournment were filed by the defense.

“Only until August 31, 2021, the trial began and on February 24, 2022, the defense requested release due to the expiration of terms.” The trial will continue on March 30, 2022, that day, it is expected, the arguments will be made and the judge will determine the meaning of the ruling. If it is condemnatory, the prosecutor will immediately request that an arrest warrant be issued.

However, the hearing could not be held until June 3, and in the middle of the reading of the ruling, which is already condemnatory, as the judge stated, an arrest warrant was issued against Parra that became effective immediately because the man was retained in the same trials by CTI agents.

After this episode, today, August 18, another judge, after reviewing the case, sentenced the man and declared that he It would increase from 18 to 20 years the sentence that Parra will have to pay in one of the country’s prisons.
