Judge Warns Trump: Inflammatory Remarks Could Expedite 2020 Election Trial

WASHINGTON, DC ∙ US District Judge Tanya Chutkan warned Donald Trump and his lawyer on Friday that she might speed up the trial of Trump, who is facing court action for trying to sabotage the 2020 election. Tanya Chutkan made the comments following Trump’s repeated ‘exciting’ statements regarding criminal prosecution.

Chutkan pointed out Trump’s First Amendment right to free speech. Especially when he’s campaigning for president. But Tanya Chutkan said her primary goal was to ensure ‘the orderly administration of justice’.

Trump, like every American, has a First Amendment right to free speech. But that right is not absolute, Tanya said. “The defendant’s free speech is subject to court-imposed bail conditions, which must yield to the orderly administration of justice.”

“I caution you and your client to be very careful with your public statements regarding this case,” Chutkan told Trump’s lawyer, John Lauro, during a hearing. “I will take all necessary steps to protect the integrity of these proceedings,” Tanya warned
