It was a real transfer coup that EHC Biel landed in May. With Juho Olkinuora (31), the Seelanders were able to sign a freshly crowned world champion and Olympic champion as a goalkeeper. However: The Finn will not be on the ice for Biel next winter.

As it became known in North America on Wednesday night, the Detroit Red Wings have secured the goalkeeper’s services. Olkinuora is making use of an NHL release clause and will therefore go to the USA instead of Biel. He signed a one-year contract with Detroit. His salary: $750,000. In the contract, however, the Red Wings reserve the option of deporting Olkinuora to the farm team if necessary.
