Juliane Lukamboa young refugee from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), was able to use her intelligence and determination to overcome the challenges she faced. After spending a decade in refugee camps in Organshe managed to migrate to UNITED STATES with his family and graduated with flying colors from Northland High School in Columbus. His passion for math helped him boost his confidence in his studies and land him an impressive college scholarship of $240,000.
Choosing to study computer science at the University of Dayton, Juliane attributes her choice of course to her internship at the Ohio Department of Transportation. Despite her exceptional intelligence, she advocates hard work and constant effort: “Despite your intelligence, it doesn’t always help if you don’t put in the effort. You always have to study, you always have to prepare”, a- she declared.
Juliane is also a role model for her siblings, providing constant help with their homework and embodying the values of faith, resilience and commitment that were instilled by her family. Furthermore, despite the DRC’s natural resource wealth, political challenges have driven many citizens to emigrate, creating vibrant Congolese communities around the world, including in the United States.
Aware of the importance of involvement in school life and the crucial role of guidance counsellors, Juliane encourages secondary school students to start applying to universities and scholarships as early as possible, and to seek internship opportunities. . Recently, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) awarded Juliane an additional $4,000 scholarship, recognizing her merit and dedication. Juliane Lukambo’s story is a true example of resilience and determination, proving that ambition and hard work can lead to incredible opportunities, even in the face of adversity.
