Julio César Chávez Jr.’s Struggles: The Painful Legacy of Mexico’s Boxing Legend

The greatest legend of Mexican boxing continues to suffer from the addictions and behavioral problems of one of his heirs. Julio César Chávez broke the silence after Junior’s most recent statements, who accused that his father’s legacy was built “fighting against taxi drivers.” As expected, the retired fighter and television analyst is deeply affected because he sees no improvement in his son.

Although Julio Jr. spent a year admitted to an annex to seek to cure his addiction problems, which, according to his father, are to “diet pills,” his erratic behavior in recent months, controversial accusations and alleged relapse have dismayed to Chávez González, who openly confesses to being afraid that his son will die.

Julio César Chávez talks about Junior and his health

Interviewed in the podcast Joking with the Riveras about the state of health of Julio César Chávez Jr., the Mexican Grand Champion regretted that addiction problems seem like a bottomless slide in the life of his first-born that affects not only him, but to everyone around him.

“I feel sorry for him, because his children are young and he is not enjoying them. It hurts me that he is going to go crazy, that an accident is going to happen to him while driving at 12-1 in the morning at full speed, that he is going to have a heart attack from so many pills he takes,” he declared.

JC Chávez regrets not being able to help Junior

The member of the Boxing Hall of Fame, who for many years was a victim of alcohol and drug addictions, managed to get ahead and boasts more than a decade clean. After that nightmare, he opened rehabilitation clinics to help those who needed it, but that makes him even more helpless as he cannot clean Junior.

“It is something very painful for me, because children are something else. The biggest pain I feel is that, having my addiction clinics, I cannot help him,” she said.

“It was in an annex for a year, everyone was very happy and everything, but a week later it came out and again! I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what happened?’ It’s not possible that a week later I relapsed on the pills and said: ‘What do I do?’ I have taken him to the clinic again, he cleans himself and comes out again.”
