This Thursday, July 20, Colombia celebrated its 213th anniversary of Independence with parades and plays honoring the brave martyrs and heroes in the country’s capital.

It is worth mentioning that the Independence of Colombia in 1810 marked the end of Spanish rule and liberated the territories of the Viceroyalty of New Granada.

This triumph boosted the development of Colombians and has shaped a history full of traditions, cultures, hymns and outstanding figures that the people revere and remember every time this commemorative date approaches.

What was the route of the July 20 parade in Bogotá?

This military parade began at 11:50 p.m. and took place on Boyacá Avenue, from 153rd Street to 127th Street. One of the aspects that most caught people’s attention were the dog friends who participated and who also attended this commemorative act. Also, the dog’s mom Wilson led part of the parade in honor of the four-legged hero.

2:30 pm: End of the July 20 parade in Bogotá.

11:50 am: The President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, authorized the start of the parade in the capital of Valle del Cauca.
