Justin Bieber suffers from unilateral facial paralysis

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber suffers from unilateral facial paralysis. Bieber said in an Instagram video yesterday he’s been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome – leaving one side of his face “completely paralysed”. The 28-year-old announced this week that he had to take a break from his world tour due to illness. Two performances in Toronto, Canada, were canceled at short notice.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is paralysis of one side of the face caused by shingles on the facial nerve. Since the ear can also be affected, hearing loss can also occur.

“Completely Paralyzed”

“As you can see, I can’t blink with that eye or smile on that side of my face, nor does that nostril move,” Bieber demonstrated in his video. “So that side of my face is completely paralyzed.”

Bieber said he took the video to show all the disappointed fans that he was “just not physically able” to do concerts. “It’s pretty serious, as you can see.”
