K-Rail is not permitted; Railway Board’s affidavit reiterating its position in the High Court

Kochi: The central government has reiterated that there is no permission for K-Rail, the dream project of the state government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In an affidavit submitted to the High Court, the Railway Board has stated that no special permission has been given for the social impact study being conducted by Kerala. The affidavit submitted by the Assistant Solicitor General on behalf of the Central Government states that no permission has been given for the Silverline project.

The Railway Board is of the view that the land acquisition for the K-Rail project is immature. It is clarified that there is no permission from the Center or the Railways for the social impact study and survey conducted by the state government. Center is not responsible for any action taken. The affidavit also states that the company K-Rail is responsible for what has happened so far.

The petitions filed against the social impact study are coming up for consideration by the High Court the next day. In this situation, the Center has repeatedly clarified its position. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had stated that he would go ahead with the project despite widespread protests against the installation of K-rail poles in the state. But after the defeat in Thrikkakari, the Chief Minister had softened his stand and said that the project would be implemented only if the Center approved it.
