Kankan: contract teachers have joined the classes

Following the call launched by the regional coordinator of their collective, Kankan’s contract teachers massively returned to school this Monday, October 30, 2023.

After the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the national coordination of contract teachers in Guinea and the ministers of Pre-university Education and that of Territorial Administration, these teachers were called to join the classes. This is the observation made by our regional correspondent in the various schools in the city of Kankan.

At Almamy Samory Touré (AST) high school, the principal, N’faly Sidibé, confirmed the effective presence of contract workers in his establishment. “The scheduled contract teachers all responded 100% with determination. And besides, they all had their preparation workbooks up to date, lessons well prepared and they are comfortable giving lessons to the children as if they were not on strike. I find it very beneficial. I admit that this situation had become worrying because it was I myself who was running the classes in need of a teacher”.

For his part, Youssouf Touré, principal of the Lycée 3 Avril in Kankan, recognizes that “since Saturday, we were very happy with this announcement, because the absence of these teachers was felt within my establishment. They were the ones who taught all the subjects (French, physics, chemistry, history), in all exam classes. Really, I say thank you to the signatories of this agreement.”

To get to the bottom of the facts, our reporter headed to one of the final year mathematics science classes at Lycée AST. In this class, Fodé Mara, contract teacher, teaches a Physics lesson. “We have learned that an agreement has been signed between the two parties. So, as a contract worker, I can only come and teach my lessons as usual,” he confided.

Note that since the opening of classes on October 4, Kankan’s contract teachers had avoided public schools.
