Almost a year and a half after her mother’s sad departure, the arrival of her granddaughter into the world (on September 30) was a great reason for Karina Rivera to smile again. At 54 years old, the children’s presenter assures that she is living the most “wonderful, full and honest” stage of her life. “Isabellita filled a void and filled everyone with energy and joy, especially my father, who at 86 years old has had the joy of meeting his great-granddaughter,” she says.

In this interview, the protagonist of the popular children’s duo Karina and Timoteo reflects on motherhood, responds to the critics of her daughter, Doris Fundichely (23 years old), remembers her time on television, and tells us about her current partner, the administrator Alejandro Rodó Iglesias.

“When Doris got pregnant, many said: ‘how horrible’, ‘how outrageous’, ‘how did she screw up?’, and many other things. I would like to tell those people that we are not the ones to judge. We must learn to look at our lives because the mistakes we make throughout are lessons learned. People who make mistakes are not bad or worse than others. My daughter did not finish her studies, but she will have time to do so. There is no age to study. As long as one does not lose the compass and continues dreaming, life will be very beautiful for everyone,” says Rivera.

“My daughter ended up having a cesarean section and never complained. She does everything alone. She is very brave. I am amazed at what is happening. From now on she is a great mother,” she adds.

Like Doris, Karina was also a mother in her twenties. She had her first child, Alejandro Heredia, at age 23, before coming to television. At that time – the artist remembers with nostalgia and gratitude – she had the unconditional support of her mother.

“At that time I lived with my son’s father abroad. My mother accompanied me during the birth and was by my side until Alejandro was three months old, then she returned to Lima. She taught me many things that I now pass on to my daughter,” he nods.

affectionate relationship

In 2020, after 15 years of marriage, Karina and Orlando Fundichely confirmed their separation. Recently, after the arrival of little Isabella, both reappeared together in a video, giving each other a symbolic hug inside a local clinic after becoming grandparents. An image that -explains the TV presenter- sums up the good relationship they have as parents.

“We were both drooling, fascinated by this stage of being grandparents. And just as Orlando appears in photos, you will also see my boyfriend there. We are adults, we don’t want to live in fights,” he says after highlighting the good sentimental moment he is experiencing with his partner, Rodó Iglesias.

“In December we will be 4 years old. We have not talked about marriage, we have not thought about getting married. We are happy, calm, enjoying every moment. He is the false grandfather, he helps my daughter in whatever she can, she accompanies us. The mission of everyone here is to make our children happy and to be happy ourselves,” she emphasizes.

Sweet duo

Away from television, Karina continues to bring fun to adults and children with her duo Timoteo, but from various settings, with live shows. This November 18 she will appear at the gastronomic fair La ruta del huarike, which she sees from November 17 to 19 at the Exhibition Park.

“During the reunions, the children who saw us on TV and who are now adults, have told us that we were like their nannies because we took care of them and accompanied them. Something also happened that marked me, something strong. Two people told me: ‘Thanks to you, I didn’t commit suicide.’ Knowing that in those 4 hours that we had in the program, we have been able to help in this way, is a blessing that I thank with all my soul,” she emphasizes.
