Kaspersky Safe Kids gets new screen time management feature

Kaspersky has announced an update to the Kaspersky Safe Kids app, aiming to simplify online time management for parents and children. With the new functionality, children can now request extra time on their devices with a single click, eliminating the need for adults to manually intervene in settings.

According to data from a scientific study on screen time in children aged 6 to 14, the daily average is 2.77 hours, with 46.4% exceeding 2 hours. Kaspersky highlights the influence of parents on this behavior, and the Safe Kids update aims to make this time management easier, making communication between parents and children faster and more efficient.

The new functionality generates notifications so that parents can approve or reject, in addition to defining the additional amount desired. Graphs on the main screen present usage statistics to help adults make decisions.

“This update aims to improve the experience of parents and children with our parental solution, as we understand that the current routine is dynamic and technology should make tasks easier. On the other hand, we reinforce that the program is just an extension of the rules established in the family. The addition of time and exceptions to the rule were made easier in the software, but constant conversation with minors is an important practice for good digital education”, says Fabiano Tricarico, general director of consumer products at Kaspersky for the Americas.

Currently available for Android devices, the functionality is limited to parents on iOS, with plans to expand to iOS, Mac, and Windows devices.
