Kate Garraway Joins Celebrity “Traitors” cast Amidst Personal Hardships
Kate Garraway, 57, a familiar face on “Good Morning Britain,” is reportedly set to join the cast of the highly anticipated celebrity edition of the BBC reality show “Traitors.” Garraway will be filming alongside actor Stephen Fry, 67, and former England rugby star Joe Marler, 34, at the picturesque Ardross Castle in Scotland next month.Claudia Winkleman will host the show.
This new venture comes after a challenging period in Garraway’s life. An earlier reality TV endeavor saw her competing on “I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!” in 2019, finishing fourth before Jacqueline Jossa, known for her role on the British soap opera “EastEnders,” was crowned the winner.
Shortly after returning from her jungle adventure, garraway’s husband, Derek Draper, contracted COVID-19. Draper battled long-term effects of the virus and passed away in January 2024. Throughout his four-year fight, Garraway became a vocal advocate for raising awareness about long COVID and openly discussed the financial strain of funding his care.A source told The Sun, “Kate has signed her contract for Celebrity traitors.The BBC were avoiding stars who’ve done reality TV before but Kate’s someone they want to support and champion.” The source continued, “She’s a great journalist and they think she’s perfect for a seat at the table. She’s had such a tough time since losing Derek and is a huge fan of the show so this is a dream come true for her.”
A BBC spokesperson said,”The Traitors includes lies and deception,so it would be foolhardy for any faithful to speculate before the game has begun.”
The celebrity cast also includes former England rugby prop Joe marler, 34, who retired from international rugby. A source told The Sun that, “Joe has officially signed his contract for Celebrity Traitors and can’t wait to get stuck in.” They added, “Joe is a huge fan of The Traitors and the BBC loved him when they met him for an interview for the show. He says he’s got his game plan all mapped out and thinks he can go all the way.”
the show is set in a castle in the Scottish Highlands. “The Traitors” is a psychological reality competition where contestants work as a team to complete challenges to win a cash prize.But hidden among them are “traitors” who are secretly trying to eliminate the “faithful” contestants one by one. The “faithful” must try to identify the “traitors” and banish them from the game before they are all eliminated.Garraway has joined the lineup of celebrities participating in “Celebrity Great British Bake Off,” which premiered last week. alison Hammond, 50, and Noel Fielding, 51, will host the special episodes for Stand up To Cancer, with Paul Hollywood, 59, and new judge Caroline Waldegrave, 72, presiding over the contestants’ creations.
Each week, four celebrities will face the signature, technical, and showstopper challenges, vying for the coveted Star Baker title.
Other scheduled celebrities include Sarah Beeny, Adam Buxton, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Scarlette Douglas, Stuart Douglas, Ellie Goldstein, Gloria Hunniford OBE, Jim Howick, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Roman Kemp, jamali maddix, Maxine peake, Chris Ramsey, Rosie Ramsey, Rebecca Lucy Taylor, Meera Syal, tommy Tiernan, Phil Wang, and Sophie willan.
The current series will be the first not judged by Prue Leith.Fellow baker Paul will be joined by Caroline, a friend of the show’s former judge and co-owner and managing director of Leiths School of Food & Wine.
Prue has stepped away from the celebrity edition of the show temporarily.
