Can you keep and domesticate a wild boar? Funny question, but it deserves to be asked since a couple from Chiny in the province of Luxembourg took in a wild boar more than a year ago, which has grown well. Today, the wild boar weighs 80 kg and it will get even bigger. The animal is currently living… in the living room of the house. However, is it legal?
Oscar, the wild boar, is very calm when his mistress Tiffany scratches him. He is also a fan of petting, but what he loves most of all… is nibbling and gobbling large quantities of food! “More or less two kilos per day“, notes Grégory, the master. “We give him treats, but also chicory, potatoes, leftovers… a little bit of everything“.
Grégory discovers him injured following a hunting trip. Injured, he was only a wild boar and the couple decided to take him in, without initially intending to keep him. “I tried to take him to an educational farm, but we were crying because he was screaming so much. A week later someone called me saying he was starving himself to death.“, notes the teacher.

14 months later, he now weighs 80 kilos and with Talia, the dog, he sleeps on the couch. “We’re on the fourth, because two of them cause damage“, explains Tiffany. “Many cousins have been there too“.
Oscar is therefore a domesticated wild animal, but who has not lost his taste for the outdoors, and who often walks with his leash at the end of his masters’ hand. Strolling through the streets of the village, Oscar is happy to escape the strict application of the law, because for an individual, keeping a wild boar is prohibited and it could have been euthanized.
The case of Tiffany and Grégory was therefore tolerated, but is strongly discouraged, as a member of the SPW explains. “We’re going to adapt, we’re going to make a big park for him. Because leaving it in the house won’t be possible…”, explains the master. Especially since Oscar can still live 15 years! As for his weight, it will probably double again…
