Keldon Johnson renews at Spurs for 4 years and 80 million

In full progress since his debut in San Antonio, Keldon Johnson will continue the adventure with the Spurs. The winger has signed a new four-year, $80 million contract with the Texas franchise.

Member of the 2019 Draft like Ja Morant, Zion Williamson and company, Keldon Johnson was also eligible for a contract extension this summer. Would the Spurs want to lock the explosive winger now or rather wait gently until 2023 to join the negotiating table? As always at Fort Alamo it’s rumor-level radio silence and then Shams Charania de The Athletic came out of his box last night to inform us that the Texans had offered their nugget a 4-year, $80 million contract. Whoever was shooting 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 47% shooting and almost 40% parking this season is now tied to the franchise until 2027!

This extension is excellent news for the Spurs, who are preparing for the future with a very talented, young player (23 years old in October) and whose room for improvement is still significant. With Dejounte Murray gone to the Hawks, Keldon Johnson should logically become the new boss of the AT&T Center. A role that will have to be tamed, even if the boy never seemed to be afraid of responsibilities. The stats will probably climb a little more but the victories should not be legion this season. With its only All-Star gone and a very young workforce, San Antonio is preparing nicely for a year under the sign of tanking. The last time the franchise had chosen such a strategy, during the 1996-97 season, a certain Tim Duncan had landed in Texas as the number 1 draft. We know the success story that followed for the interior of the Virgin Islands (5 titles won with SA). In 2023, it is Victor Wembanyama who will make all GMs salivate and the Spurs hope to do well at the Lottery to get their hands on the new pivot of the Metropolitans 92.

Keldon Johnson extends his contract with the Spurs and San Antonio ensures the presence of his young talent until 2027. The new boss at the Spurs is called Big Body.
