Kenyan Chebet wins the Boston Marathon

Kenyan Evens Chebet broke away from the lead pack with just over 6 kilometers (4 miles) to go and with an irrepressible shot won the 126th edition of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Evens broke away from Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay to win in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, 60 seconds.

More than 28,000 runners participated in the test.

Along the route, Ukrainian flags abounded in support of that country, which was invaded by Russia. The organizers withdrew the invitation to runners from Russia and its ally Belarus.
