If we hear that a baby was born from sperm stored 26 years ago, it will be a little difficult for us to believe. But this is true. Peter Hickles, who is suffering from cancer, is now a father at the age of 47 through the sperm stored in the lab at the age of 21.

Peter found out he had a tumor in his back when he went on holiday to Australia several years ago. The tumor was caused by a type of cancer called Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Doctors suggested chemotherapy. Before starting cancer treatment, doctors asked to submit a sperm sample.

Peter’s cancer treatment began after the sperm donation, followed by nine rounds of chemotherapy. Peter said he thought sperm had a lifespan of only 10 years. Sperm count drops to zero after chemotherapy, which is often the case in men with cancer.

Peter Hickles was inseminated on June 5, 1996 after Peter was diagnosed with cancer. On October 20, 2022, Peter Hickles became a father through his stored sperm. Peter’s fiancee Aurelisa gave birth to the baby through IVF technology. Footballer Peter said in an interview with ‘The Sun’ that he could not believe he had become a father.

It was only when he started living with Aurelisa that Peter began to feel the desire to have a child. But it was very difficult. Meanwhile, Peter remembers the sperm sample he saved years ago. Peter was happy to realize that his sperm was still healthy.

The couple then thought of having a baby using IVF technology. Peter’s sperm sample was kept in a freezer at University College Hospital, London. After this, Peter and Auralisa spent Rs 28 lakhs on IVF treatment. Through treatment, a baby came into their lives. Peter currently lives in Colchester, Essex (UK).
