Blasters’ former player Ian Hume and others have taken the stand that it was wrong for the coach to call the team back from the field in the match against Bengaluru FC. But Alvaro Vasquez, who was one of the Blasters’ top scorers last season, supported coach Ivan Vukomanovic’s decision. Calling it a brave decision, the current FC Goa star, Alvaro Blasters coach, expressed his support through his Instagram story.

“It’s a shame to have to end the match like this, but it’s a brave decision on the part of coach Ivan and the club. We hope and wish that the league will have better and more equal matches in the future,” Alvaro Vázquez wrote on his Instagram story.

Sunil Chhetri’s foul goal in extra time against Bengaluru FC Kerala Blasters in the first play-off of the ISL 2022-23 season led to controversy. Chheti scored before giving the Blasters time to defend against BFC’s free kick from just outside Kerala’s box. When the referee ruled it a goal, it led to controversies.

Even though Kerala Blasters protested in the dugout, the referee stuck to the decision. With this, coach Ivan Vukomanovic called the Blasters players to leave the field. Then the Kerala Blasters team returned to the dressing room. Later, the match commissioner and others came and wrote the verdict that Bengaluru FC had won.
