Thiruvananthapuram – Rains intensify in Kerala. Red alert announced in Ernakulam district. Orange alert has been announced in 11 districts namely Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Yellow alert is on in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.

It has been raining widely across the state since last night. It rains heavily in the hilly region. The Meteorological Department had earlier informed that heavy and very heavy rains are likely in the state till Thursday with the formation of cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea in addition to the Bay of Bengal. The presence of a coastal low pressure system from southern Maharashtra to the Kerala coast and the monsoon system has shifted from its normal position to the south is a favorable environment for rains.
