On the 36th lap when the VSC was lifted, Iwasa picked up the pace again and marked the fastest lap on the 37th lap. On the 38th and 39th laps, he overtook the leading cars whose pace had slowed down and moved up to 2nd place, closing in behind the leaders. He aimed for the lead on the final lap, but fell short and took the checkered flag in 2nd place, 0.4 seconds behind.
