Kevin Magnussen “Medium was the wrong tire” / Haas F1 Team Emilia Romagna GP Sprint[F1-Gate .com]

Haas F1 Team Kevin Magnussen admits that the chase of fighting the F1 Emilia Romagna GP sprint in medium was a wrong decision.

Kevin Magnussen and teammate Mick Schumacher started Saturday’s sprint in medium in hopes of having tires. Soft was selected for the remaining fields.

However, the majority of drivers responded well to the soft over 21 laps, leaving Kevin Magnussen to fight faster cars. However, Magnussen finally finished the race in 8th place after dropping four places.

Kevin Magnussen scored one point on Saturday’s sprint, but says he wants to see what else was possible for him at Imola.

When asked if he had a hard time suppressing the subsequent software, Kevin Magnussen told reporters, “I was very surprised to see everyone wearing the software.”

“I tried the software in free practice, but I thought it would deteriorate too much, so I was a little nervous because everyone else was soft at the start.

“They overtook me early in the first half of the race because they were faster, and towards the end it was kind of even.”

“But overall, soft tires are the right tires for that race and we learned that. We’ll score points and start from 8th for tomorrow’s race. Normally, that’s what we do. I think I’m pretty happy. “

“Still, we had a good weekend. We are looking forward to tomorrow and hope to get some more points.”

Kevin Magnussen explained that the team had run soft tires on Saturday’s FP2 to determine which compound to use in the sprint.

Soft thought he would continue to lose grip after the first high-speed run, but admitted that the theory was incorrect and eventually he lost the chance to run faster in the early stages.

“We had taken a step toward deterioration in about 13 laps, and I decided it would continue,” said Kevin Magnussen.

“But when I saw everyone else on lap 13, it was similar. I took a few steps, but stayed there and at the same pace as I did.”

“So the soft tires were the right tires. I made a mistake, but we are alive to fight on a new day.”
