Khelo India Youth Games begins
Chennai: The 6th Khelo India Youth Games got off to a colorful start. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Games held in various cities of Tamil Nadu at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. He said that in order to progress in the world sports arena, big sports competitions should be held in the country.
“Many changes have been made in the field of sports in the last 10 years. The government is not waiting for the youth to come to the sports field, but the government is bringing sports to the youth,” said the Prime Minister.
The inauguration ceremony was held with programs including road show. INS by helicopter from Chennai airport. After reaching Adar, the Prime Minister reached the inauguration venue by road, a distance of four kilometers from there. People waiting on both sides of the road greeted him with shouts and flowers. Presentation of traditional art forms was also part of the inauguration ceremony.
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, L. Murugan, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin and others were present. Khelo India competitions are held at 15 venues in the cities of Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli. The competitions are in 26 sports like Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Badminton and Kabaddi. Ends on 31st. More than 6000 athletes below 18 years of age from various states will participate.
