The Dongshi Forest Management Office issued a press release today stating that the Daxueshan National Forest Recreation Area is located at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters. The climate is cold and there are few snakes, but there are still many snakes appearing here over the years. The most common is Kikuchi’s tortoise shell flower and Taiwan red snake, followed by Zode’s striped red snake, ringed red snake, tortoise shell flower, Majiashan tortoise shell flower (formerly known as Alishan tortoise shell flower) and red-tailed green bamboo silk .

Among them, the tortoise shell flower of Kikuchi is a kind of snake unique to Taiwan. It is slow-moving and small in size. It likes to haunt the mountains at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,500 meters. It has a mild personality and will not take the initiative to attack people. Mountain friends should be careful when climbing, retreat calmly or dodge with a trekking pole.

The Dongshi Forest Management Office urges that if you encounter a snake on the mountain, you should stay calm, retreat in the opposite direction, or wait for the snake to leave on its own to reduce interference to the snake, and only use a trekking pole and other tools to gently push it away when necessary. , do not disturb or hurt it.
