It is expected that in March, 36-year-old South African runner, 2011 World Cup silver medalist in athletics Oscar Pistorius will use the right to parole.

Pistorius is the pride of African sports, a symbol of fortitude. At 11 months old, both legs were amputated below the knees, but he also achieved outstanding achievements with prostheses, even in the fight against full-fledged sprinters.

But on February 14, 2013, Oscar’s entire life went down the drain when he shot and killed his mistress Riva Steenkamp in the bathroom of his house with an unregistered gun. At the trial, the athlete claimed that he was mistaken in mistaking the girl in the dark for a robber. However, many suspicious circumstances surfaced – in particular, the neighbors said that on the eve of the tragedy they heard the sounds of a violent quarrel between Oscar and Riva. As a result, the athlete was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter. And a year later he went from prison to house arrest. A year has passed – and the South African Supreme Court reclassified the charge as premeditated murder and in November 2017 sent Pistorius to the bunk for 13 years and five months.

This month, the killer becomes eligible for parole. Lawyers rely on the fact that their ward is disabled, he was beaten several times in prison, he tried to commit suicide.

– I’m not against parole, – said the father of the deceased Barry Stenkamp.
