[대한뉴스=김경희 기자] Gyeonggi-do Governor Kim Dong-yeon emphasized that he would contribute to the successful promotion of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex by creating a fabless complex to secure system semiconductor competitiveness in the 3rd Pangyo Techno Valley.

On the 27th, Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with reporters after signing a ‘win-win agreement to promote the success of the Yongin National Industrial Complex’ at the Giheung Campus of Samsung Electronics in Yongin.
Governor Kim said, “What is lacking in system semiconductors in Korea is fabless. Gyeonggi-do plans to create a fabless cluster centered on the 3rd Pangyo Techno Valley. If that happens, synergy can be created to secure the competitiveness of system semiconductors,” he said. “We plan to create a semiconductor industry ecosystem by attracting fabless-related ventures and start-ups. In addition to 3 Pangyo, we plan to make efforts to create fabless and front and rear industrial complexes in various places in Gyeonggi-do.”
In Gyeonggi-do, 51% of the 144 domestic fabless companies are located in Gyeonggi-do, so if the fabless industry is intensively attracted, centering on the 3rd Pangyo Techno Valley, it is expected to have a synergistic effect with the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex.
In addition, Governor Kim also announced that he would do his best to coordinate pending issues between local governments when installing infrastructure such as water and electricity for the smooth creation of the national industrial complex. He also emphasized that he would actively support manpower training.
Governor Kim said, “Cultivation of human resources is the most important and difficult part related to semiconductor investment. We will make sure that Gyeonggi-do can play a sufficient role in procuring manpower by creating manpower training programs in collaboration with various universities, public institutions, and industry.”
Meanwhile, Governor Kim attended the 3rd pan-governmental promotion support group meeting that day and discussed support strategies for the successful creation of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex with related ministries such as Yongin City, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
After the meeting, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, Yongin City, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and Samsung Electronics signed a ‘win-win agreement to promote the success of the Yongin National Industrial Complex’, and decided to make efforts to conduct a quick preliminary feasibility study and create an industrial complex tailored to demand.
In March, the government selected a site of 7.1 million square meters in Namsa and Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si as a candidate for the National Industrial Complex. Samsung Electronics plans to build the world’s largest high-tech system semiconductor cluster here by investing 300 trillion won by 2042.
