Kimi Raikkonen back behind the wheel in NASCAR

Former F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen tested a NASCAR car this Thursday at Virginia International Raceway before making its NASCAR Cups Series debut next weekend at Watkins Glen, round 25 of the 2022 season.

After a very long career in Formula 1 (353 Grands Prix), Iceman left the premier category of motorsport the day after the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, spending his last three seasons with Alfa Romeo. But next weekend, the 42-year-old Finn will be back behind the wheel and making his first NASCAR Cup Series start for Trackhouse Racing.

Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks said of Kimi Raikkonen’s upcoming debut: “I’m optimistic, I have high expectations. “I think speed, racing technique and adaptation to the track and the car will not be a problem at all.

“He’s really done a lot of prep work and that’s no surprise to me, because that’s what it takes to be as successful as he’s had in Formula 1.”

The first race to be attended by Kimi Raikkonen is scheduled for August 21, 2022 at Watkins Glen.
