Kimia Farma & Pfizer Partner to Boost Pneumonia Vaccination in Indonesia

by

Jakarta – PT Kimia Farma Diagnostika (KFD), a fully integrated healthcare provider, has formalized a strategic partnership with PT Pfizer Indonesia, aiming to bolster the national vaccination program and improve public health outcomes across Indonesia. The collaboration will focus on public education regarding the long-term clinical and economic benefits of pneumonia vaccination.

Pneumonia remains a leading cause of mortality and hospitalization in Indonesia, affecting both infants, and adults. The disease is also the primary reason for hospitalization among pilgrims undertaking the Hajj and Umrah journeys, due to the high density of people, physical exhaustion, and environmental exposure during these religious observances, according to KFD.

While pneumonia vaccination is not currently mandated nationally, KFD and Pfizer believe it should be considered as an additional preventative measure, particularly for those undertaking the Hajj and Umrah. This would allow pilgrims to perform their religious duties safely and return home in quality health, the companies stated.

The partnership builds on recent efforts by KFD to expand vaccination access. In August 2025, KFD entered into a strategic collaboration with PT Kalventis Sinergi Farma, a subsidiary of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, to further strengthen national vaccination services. This earlier agreement combined KFD’s extensive network of laboratories and clinics with Kalventis’s vaccine supply capabilities.

Arie Genipa Suhendi, CEO of KFD, emphasized the strategic importance of the Pfizer partnership. “This collaboration is a strategic step in realizing our commitment not only to provide integrated healthcare services but also to actively participate in disease prevention and improving the quality of life for the Indonesian people,” Suhendi said. “With this collaboration, we are confident that One can strengthen the national vaccination program and produce a real contribution to the health of the nation.”

The collaboration also includes plans for scientific seminars designed to enhance the understanding of healthcare professionals, stakeholders, and the public regarding the benefits of vaccination in improving quality of life and economic productivity. KFD and Pfizer expressed their hope that the partnership will have a lasting positive impact on Indonesian society and contribute to a better, more affordable healthcare system.
