IMAX, from the name of the Canadian company that developed it, is a technology that makes it possible to project films in very high quality on very large screens. The new agreement between Kinepolis and IMAX Corporation provides for the upgrading of two cinemas and the creation of six new ones, including one in Liège. The Cité ardente complex will thus join Brussels, the first Belgian city where Kinepolis implemented the technology in 1988. The lack of suitable productions, however, led to its closure between 2005 and 2016. Things have changed, assures the Kinepolis spokesperson. The films offered in IMAX in Brussels and Antwerp are now regularly the first to be sold out. Besides Kinepolis, the Pathé group has an IMAX in Charleroi. (Belga)
