King Arthur Festival 2023: Director Adrien Gaillard Reveals Exciting Program and New Stage

Adrien Gaillard, director and co-founder of the King Arthur festival, details the 2023 program for us, on a date out of step with the big festivals. He also delivers his favorites and details the new stage, the King Dôme, launched this year.

The next edition of the King Arthur festival takes place from August 25 to 27 in Bréal-sous-Montfort (35). The ticket office is opened.

“When we launched the festival in 2008, we had it in mind that it could only take place in August: there were already too many concerts organized in July, in France and around the world, and we wanted to be able to attract groups without hearing that they were already taken elsewhere. Until August 15 or 20, people are on the coast and September is already back to school, with other concerns than attending a festival. That left the last weekend of August! From the start, in 2008, the festival hit hard with bands like Billy Ze Kick and Merzhin. You can also find the full line-up for each year on the festival’s website.

Originality of this one: day by day, we are the only ones to indicate the times of passage of the groups, especially since there is only five minutes of break between each set. It is a mark of respect for both the artist and the public. About the public, we totally claim to be a festival for everyone, able to go from rooster to donkey in a flash. Thus, this year, we will successively see Friday Lomepal (22.20 to 23.35) then Miel de Montagne (23.40 to 00.40) to finish with The Blaze (00.45 to 2.15), three universes that are very different! Since the creation of the festival, this eclecticism has been important because I often hear festival-goers say that thanks to this very varied program, they have made great discoveries. I find it great when the mayonnaise takes and it enhances our work.

This year, we only have big names in their register but my favorites go to Miel de Montagne and its crazy 80s-90s style show on Fridays, to Louise Attaque on Saturdays, who will perform all her hits and to Lujipeka Sunday. This former Columbine collective has acquired a terrible flow and I really recommend seeing him, especially since it’s the stage location. Special mentions also to Pure, the winners of our springboard this year, which will open the festival, and to November Ultra, female revelation at the Victoires de la Musique 2023, which we had scheduled before this award ceremony. She will be on stage on Saturday at the beginning of the evening, and it will be perfect.

All these artists will perform on one or other of the two main stages, but there will be a new one this year, the King Dôme, a marquee entirely dedicated to Celtic and festive music: the Quimpérois from Red Cardell, who had ignited the King stage in 2009, Doolin’, French people who sound like Irish, BRETONS, who revisit traditional pieces in a rock version, The Sidh, Italians who make the bagpipes ring in the electro hour or even the celtic punk from Celkilt. And there will always be the Kouign Zone, set up last year, a somewhat barren chill-out space, with several Breton DJs, including four from Rennes.
