Vice Chancellor Kogler warns against the abolition of freedom of expression under Kickl. Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig is critical of the SPÖ coalition conditions in advance.

Vienna (OTS) – If FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl takes Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as a model, you know “where the journey is going: So goodbye to freedom of expression,” said Kogler today in an interview with PULS 24 info chief Corinna Milborn (broadcast at 21 :15 p.m. on PULS 24 and JOYN)

You can’t just let the “blue leader party” do its own thing. The Greens are already countering this and Kogler assumes that “others will join in”. It is also important to draw a “positive perspective for the future” – “in the spirit of democracy and the rule of law”.

If an “Orbánistan” actually comes, Austria would be threatened with “not only democratic but also social and economic decline,” said the Vice Chancellor. He would be worried that “democracy does not always seem strong enough to immunize itself against right-wing radical tendencies” – this is an issue in many countries, and one also has to be “vigilant” in Austria.

In the federal government, the mood between the Greens and the ÖVP is “quite good,” said Kogler. However, Kogler sharply criticizes one thing: the “de facto lie” about abolishing the commuter allowance, as Kogler calls it. The Lower Austrian governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) was particularly vocal about this supposed abolition, which is not planned at all. She told Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (The Greens) in December: “Working people should be harassed while climate stickers enjoy foolish freedom on our streets, that’s out of the question for us.” Kogler said: Mikl-Leitner was “wrongly advised to join in with the lying propagandists and repeat any of the tabloid headlines that were out there.”

Also a guest: Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). He warns against setting coalition conditions as the SPÖ, such as the introduction of an inheritance tax: “I am very much in favor of people saying what they stand for, but I would not set the bar for coalition conditions so high that it leads to disappointment afterwards. Because that too has to be explained to the population and I am very much in favor of arousing trust among the population and not sowing distrust.”

Ludwig is also not in favor of expelling former Federal Chancellor and Signa Supervisory Board Chairman Alfred Gusenbauer from the party, as Burgenland’s SPÖ is calling for: “I can only say: Alfred Gusenbauer was a successful politician, that went back a long time and was obviously a sought-after consultant various ventures. I can’t judge to what extent the payment was justified, but it was obviously worth it to the respective entrepreneurs.”

Regarding the Signa construction site on Mariahilfer Straße, where the “Lamarr” department store is to be built and construction work is currently at a standstill, Ludwig says: “As a city, we would not directly intervene in ownership structures, but of course we will monitor this very closely and intervene if necessary “.
