Kozhikode: For the first time, the Vice President of the District Panchayat’s budget for the year 2222-23 has given consideration to the transgender community. Shivanandan presented the budget. He said the district panchayat was able to make a proud achievement in the project activities even when Kovid was facing crisis. He said that the budget for the year 2022-23 has been prepared with the aim of overcoming the crisis and creating a new Kerala. President Sheeja Shashi presided over the function.

Despite the budget focusing on the agricultural sector, no new plans have been announced. At the same time, funds have been allocated to carry out existing projects. An amount of `6.45 crore has been set apart for further expansion of the Kathirani project with the objective of a waste free district introduced in the last budget.

An amount of `3.25 crore has been set apart for dairy development and` 5.07 crore for schemes like egg village, poultry rearing and poultry rearing implemented in the animal husbandry sector.

Nominal allocations were made for the transgender, tourism, youth welfare, sports, arts and culture sectors, and poverty alleviation.

For the first time, a budget of Rs 10 lakh has been set aside for the transgender community. The vice president said in his budget speech that the plan was to bring transgender people into the mainstream.

An amount of `5 lakh has been earmarked for tourism promotion,` 7 lakh for youth welfare, `25 lakh for sports,` 30 lakh for arts and culture, `32 lakh for development of fisheries sector and exploitation of tourism potential and` 50 lakh for poverty alleviation.

The Vice President added that he hopes that the Keralotsavam will be held this year to promote the creativity of the youth.

The expected revenue of the district panchayat for the year 2022-23 is 118.16 crore. This is Rs 2.5 crore less than last year. The revised budget for the year 2021-22 was also presented.

Last year’s total revenue was Rs 162.63 crore and expenditure Rs 147 crore. The expected expenditure for the year 2022-23 is Rs 129.96 crore. The current outlay is Rs 15.62 crore.

K-Rail stars in budget debate

Kozhikode: K-Rail debates were heard during the district panchayat budget discussion. It was Nasser Estate who began by saying that he was speaking during the budget in solidarity with the K-Rail victims.

He said last year’s was a recurring budget, alleging that the budget was just a text exercise. Later, Adv. P. Gavas paved the way for the K-Rail talks. Vice President K-Rail, who started his reply speech, listened to the discussion and said that he doubted for a moment whether he was in the Assembly or not. He said the changes mentioned by the members would be incorporated and the government has not been instructed to formulate clear plans.

Budget at a glance

  • The district panchayat will take steps for the development of rural roads along with the development of roads. Steps will be taken for infrastructure development of district panchayats and constituent institutions. I set apart `12.76 crore for public works and` 11.59 crore for asset development.
