THE CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari, has officially complained to the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) regarding allegations of immorality. The victim was one of the overseas election committee (PPLN) officers whose identity was kept secret.

The victim’s attorney from the Legal Aid Consultation Institute, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH-FHUI), Maria Dianita Prosperiani, said that there was a power relationship that occurred as a result of the alleged immorality. Hasyim, he continued, used personal interests in building a relationship with the victim.

“This is repeated behavior in order to fulfill his personal interests, the Chairman of the KPU is suspected of abusing his position of authority, he is using private facilities. What we note here is the existence of a power relationship,” said Maria at the DKPP Office, Jakarta, Thursday (18/4 ).

He explained that the relationship between Hasyim and the victim first started in August 2023 when Hasyim went on an official visit abroad. Meanwhile, the alleged immorality ends in March 2024.

Another victim’s attorney, Aristo Pangaribuan, explained that Hasyim’s typology of violations of the code of ethics for election organizers was similar to the previous complaint to the DKPP last year by the Chair of the Republic One Party, namely Hasnaeni or who is often called the Golden Woman.

“As for Hasnaeni, she is the general chairman of the party, she has interests. Our client is a woman, a PPLN officer, she doesn’t have any interests, she feels she is a victim of her power relations. Because this is her boss, the Chairman of the KPU,” he explained.

In his complaint, the victim’s attorney also included evidence in the form of conversations between Hasyim and the victim, photos and other written evidence. Hasyim’s actions were deemed to have violated the oath or promise of KPU members to uphold the integrity and professionalism of election organizers.

When asked for his response to the complaint, Hasyim was still reluctant to say much. “I’ll respond later at the right time. I’m sorry,” he said in a written statement. (Tri/Z-7)
