Expectations for the film Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, were already high, but now Marvel fans have one more reason to be anxious: during CinemaCon 2023, it was revealed that the film will be the first of Marvel at Sony to be rated +18 – or Rated R in the US -, joining other features like Deadpool, Logan and Deadpool 2.
The announcement was made at a Sony Pictures panel at the event, where they showed a behind-the-scenes video showing Taylor-Johnson with the classic look of the villain and scenes that are quite violent and full of profanity. The preview also confirmed Rhino as one of the antagonists and promised the launch of the first official trailer next summer, between June and August.
Kraven the Hunter will be an adult movie
Kraven the Hunter presents the story of a Russian obsessed with hunting large animals, who gains superpowers after taking a potion. The cast also includes Ariana DeBose (Calypso), Fred Hechinger (Chameleon), Christopher Abbott (Foreigner), Alessandro Nivola and Russell Crowe.
Directed by JC Chandor (A Most Violent Year) from a screenplay by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 2), Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Kraven the Hunter is set for an October 5, 2023 release.
The +18 rating is an old wish of Marvel fans, who have always lamented the lack of more violent and faithful films to the comics, as is the case with Venom. Now, with the promise of a much more violent and adult feature, Kraven the Hunter promises to surprise the public and pave the way for other more daring productions in the Marvel cinematographic universe.
