Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today, Monday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements, during his meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, about the possibility of using the Russian fleet in various directions are related to the tense situation around the country.

Peskov said: “The (Russian) environment is very tense in many directions, around us are conflict situations and regional disputes. We all know very well the geography of these regional conflicts, and this is exactly what the conversation was about.”

Putin had indicated, in a meeting with Shoigu, the use of the fleet forces in its own units and components, and the possibility of using them in conflicts “in any direction,” asking the Minister of Defense to take this into consideration.

President Putin praised the first stage of the surprise inspection of the Pacific Fleet and thanked the military for organizing this work.

“The first stage of the unannounced inspection took place at a very high level,” Putin said during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu earlier on Monday. “I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who organized this work.”

The Russian president referred to the priorities of the army, saying: “It is clear to us that today we have priorities for the armed forces, which are the Ukrainian conflict and everything related to protecting our people in Donbass and new regions.”

He continued, “But the tasks of developing the fleet, including the Pacific Fleet, have not been canceled, so I ask you to continue this work, of course, and also pay attention to developing and preparing similar activities for other fleets.”

And on April 14, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu put the entire Pacific Fleet on alert, as part of a surprise inspection, and put it on the highest level of combat readiness. During the exercise, sailors must simulate preventing a hypothetical enemy from entering the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk. and repelling a landing operation in Sakhalin and the southern part of the Kuril Islands, indicating that the main objective of this inspection is to raise the capacity of the armed forces in the tasks of repelling possible aggression from the ocean and sea.

Shoigu announced that 167 ships, including 12 submarines, took part in the surprise inspection of the Pacific Fleet.
