KUWAIT CITY: The draft law to examine the election law before the formation of the Election Commission was approved by the government on Sunday. Assembly Speaker Ahmed Al Sadun handed over. The National Assembly is expected to discuss the draft, which has been agreed in principle between the government and the MPs, at the end of this week. The main directive is to establish a selection commission consisting of seven senior judges.
The commission will be attached to the Ministry of Justice. With this, the Election Commission will conduct and supervise the elections instead of the Election Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The draft law was formulated in accordance with the cooperation and decision of the Government-Parliamentary Coordination Committee.
Once approved by the National Assembly, the Act will come into effect and the Commission will move towards formation. It is indicated that the commission will include representatives from civil society, judicial, legislative and executive authorities.
