Work meetings throughout Austria with resolutions for warning strikes

Vienna (OTS) The ÖGB has given the GPA trade union permission to strike in the trade. After three rounds of negotiations, the KV negotiations for the approximately 430,000 employees and apprentices in retail have not produced any results. So far, employers have not been prepared to enter into a deal with a permanent effect on salaries above the underlying rolling inflation rate.

The current offer from employers is a 5 percent salary increase plus a one-off payment. “This is far below the underlying rolling inflation of 9.2 percent and is unacceptable to us. We regret that the employers were not prepared to enter into a negotiation process on a social scale or a combination of days off and money,” says the chief negotiator of the GPA union, Helga Fichtinger.

The current demand of the GPA union is 9.5% and a fixed amount of 40 euros.

Last week, the interrupted company meetings in trading were resumed. “The participation was even greater than at the first information meetings. The employees are offended that they have to wait so long for a fair pay increase. In almost all company meetings there were unanimous decisions for a first wave of warning strikes if there was no acceptable and fair result in the next round of negotiations on November 28th,” said the chairman of the trade sector in the GPA, Martin Müllauer.
