Young South African speedster Kwena Mafaka made headlines following the hosts’ thrilling win over the West Indies in the second match of the U19 World Cup 2024 in Potchefstroom on Friday. Mafaka was adjudged Player of the Match for his smashing spell of 5/38. The South African player also celebrated his wicket in the same way that Indian superstar Jasprit Bumrah celebrates when he takes a wicket.
Speaking in a video on the ICC’s Instagram page following South Africa’s win, Kwena Mafaka explained how he decided to unleash the celebration with an ‘I don’t know gesture’. He said:
“I asked my brother to give me a celebration just before the World Cup. He said, ‘I don’t know’ was said to unleash the celebration. Jasprit sent another message to Mafaka for Bumrah. This shows how confident the left-arm pacer was. He added:
“Jaspreet you are a great bowler. I hope I am better than you.” This is what the South African star said
