Ukraine to Deploy Thousands of Combat Robots in War Against Russia

KYIV,Ukraine – In a bold move aimed at offsetting Russia’s manpower and firepower advantages,Ukraine plans to deploy as many as 15,000 combat robots to the front lines by the end of the year. The enterprising initiative reflects Kyiv’s strategy to leverage technological innovation in the ongoing conflict, though questions remain about the robots’ battlefield effectiveness, and the ethical implications of increasing autonomy in warfare.

According to Economy Truth, the Ukrainian government has dramatically increased its investment in Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs). Gleb Kanevsky, director of the Procurement Department of the Ministry of Defense, told the outlet that UGV purchases totaled $2.5 million during the second half of 2024, but have skyrocketed to $150 million in the first quarter of 2025 – a hundredfold increase.
