On the official site for the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Rokujuuyon Okazawa and illustrated by Sage Joh, The Slow Second Life of the Retired Dark Soldier in His 30s (Kaiko sareta Ankoku Heishi (30-dai) no Slow na Second Life), the first promotional image of the project was published. The press release confirmed that the premiere is scheduled for January 2023 in Japan, and revealed the production details.
Okazawa began publishing the story through the independent service Shousetsuka ni Narou in November 2018, and finished it in July 2020. The publisher Kodansha began its paper publication in August 2019, with illustrations by Sage Joh. The manga adaptation by Rurekuchie is published in the magazine Young Magazine the 3rd of Kodansha since August 2019.

- Fumitoshi Oizaki (Acchi Kocchi, Romeo x Juliet, Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm) is in charge of directing the anime at the studios Encourage Films.
- Hitomi Amemiya (Astarotte no Omocha!, Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Tou, Merc Storia: Mukiryoku no Shounen to Bin no Naka no Shoujo) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Reimi Yonezawa is in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Tsubasa Itou (Princess Connect! Re:Dive, Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu, Iwa Kakeru!: Sport Climbing Girls) is responsible for the composition of the soundtrack.

Dariel, a dark soldier from the demon king’s army who cannot use magic, has risen to the position of assistant to the Four Generals thanks to his talent and energy, and has been exercising his skill.
