[공감신문] Reporter Seung-jin Yoon = According to a study published in the international academic journal ‘Cell Host & Microbe’ by researchers at the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI) in California, USA, the stronger the immune response to the cold virus, the stronger the novel coronavirus (Corona 19). ) is good for prevention.

As a result of analyzing blood from people without a history of COVID-19 infection, people with higher immunity to Common Cold Coronaviruses also have higher immunity to Corona 19.

A study was conducted with blood samples from young adults who did not have a history of COVID-19 to investigate the effects of the immune system caused by a cold infection.

The researchers looked at how immune cells in their blood react to the pre-mutation COVID-19 virus and four mutations.

As a result, a sample with a strong T-cell immune response to the cold virus showed a strong immune response to COVID-19.

The immunity developed by the cold virus in childhood is maintained into adulthood.

According to the researchers, childhood illnesses produce stronger immune memories.

Because of this, adults who frequently suffered from cold viruses in childhood are less likely to be infected with COVID-19 or are more likely to pass through asymptomatic or mild symptoms.

The researchers say the findings support the claim that the immune system responds to the common cold virus and the coronavirus in a similar way.

Therefore, when this is applied, the immune population increases, the frequency of re-infection decreases, and the symptoms are highly likely to be weakened.

However, the researchers added that it is too early to be reassured.

Just like influenza, which still kills many people, the infection of COVID-19 is still a threat.
