LA Drivers Can Now Pay for Parking Meters with a Text Message
Los Angeles drivers have a new, convenient way to pay for parking: texting. The L.A. Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that some public parking meters can now be paid for via text message.
The city has partnered with two mobile payment apps, Park Smarter and ParkMobile, to pilot this program. Initially, the text-to-pay option is available in select neighborhoods, including Larchmont and Little Tokyo. However, LADOT plans to expand the program citywide in the future.
How It Works
Both Park Smarter and ParkMobile allow users to pay for parking directly through their smartphones. Users can create an account, link a payment method, and then simply enter the parking meter number to initiate a parking session.
“People in Los Angeles can now text to pay some of their public parking meters,” LADOT stated in its announcement.
The apps offer added conveniences, such as reminder notifications when a parking session is about to expire. This feature eliminates the worry of receiving a parking ticket and allows drivers to extend their parking time from their phone without having to return to their vehicle.
Effortless Parking, Citywide
The text-to-pay parking initiative aims to streamline the parking experience for Angelenos. The program is expected to expand to cover more parking meters throughout the city, offering a user-friendly and convenient option for paying for parking.
