The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is seeking better ways of collaborating with Employers and Trade Unionists as the 137th edition of the International Labour Day draws near.
The actors in the Labour Sector exchanged on this and other issues during a webinar on April 25, 2023.
Some officials connected online, but the Moderator of the session, the Inspector General at the Ministry, Rolland Njamsi was present at the conference room of the Ministry alongside some colleagues and representatives of Trade Unions.
The close to three hours session was interspersed with presentations centred on the theme of this year’s International Labour Day, “Resilience and Decent Work: Acting Together in the World of Work to Improve Living Conditions and Social Inclusion”.
Though the session went on smoothly, participants regretted the absence of Employers in the conference room, who were expected to actively participate in the session.
This was the case of the President of the Cameroonian Confederation of Labour, Antoinette Ekoan who insisted that employers should have been present to listen to the Trade Unionists.
She however thanked the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for the path covered and implored more to be done.
The discussions ended with a satisfied Inspector General who emphasized that such forums are important because of the place social dialogue holds in labour and social security issues.
